Because of the bus strike, I had to go to the school instead of bringing the student to Flushing Town Hall. The piano was a challenge, with its missing keys, keys that don’t play and pedals that don’t work, but the comparison of Debussy and Prokofiev was still very clear. Perhaps a better piano would have given Debussy a better hearing - Or perhaps more of these young kids just like exciting music. Whatever the reason, the listeners were engaged, and I was excited to play for them.
