The last concert on my Allied Concerts winter tour brought me to the Canon City High School auditorium, with its very particular and wonderful Mason & Hamlin concert grand. The lovely effects of the left pedal made the Debussy sound even more experimental and ethereal than usual! An enthusiastic audience went all for Debussy, in the largest landslide of the tour! Some standouts were: Round 1 (Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet) and 21-40 year olds (not many of them but they were decidedly Prokofiev in their preferences!) I was very pleased to see a number of the high school students back for more. And listening to their comments, it seems that there were really engaged by the voting process. Confirming for me that the arts are going in the direction of audience involvement, participation, engagement.
