Allied Concerts North Platte, NE
North Platte’s Fox Theater is a wonderful turn of the century venue that exudes history. I was so happy to come back 13 years after my first visit here on another Allied Concerts tour.
The audience was heavily in favor of Debussy, but what was really eye-opening was the number of people who play or had played piano: 70% of the audience!! This is one of the higher ratios I’ve had, outside of music conferences and piano festivals!
The average age was also on the high side, and the older segment preferred Debussy, which tipped the scale overall. What you don’t see in the breakouts is the very high number of straight Debussy voters!

•Before tonight I never heard of Prokofiev - Now I know why!

•These choices were super hard and after much thought I had to go with Prokofiev because his bold and unique style isn't like anything I've ever heard before!

•I'm a Debussy fan, this surprised me. (Overall Prokofiev)
•Glad you're back (Chopin remembered)! Have been pushing committee. Music at home ranged from Alma Gluck to Teddy Wilson.
•The music is wonderful! I can not imagine how hard it would be for me to memorize all that!
•Absolutely Beautiful! Stunning! For some reason thought I must have been partial to football players playing the piano. Besides, I happen to like bad boys! I have nothing against jellyfish. Amazing! Thank you very much! Thrilling!
•I really enjoyed this format. Very interesting and informative.
•When does "music" become lightly arranged noises? Does "The Emperor have no clothes?"
•Liked the format. I liked both. Appreciate Debussy and he seems to be more relaxing to listen to. I voted overall for Prokofiev because his sound is more modern. He was rocking.

•Public Merrymaking, your arrangement is fantastic! Love Debussy's colors and combinations but Prokofiev's mind and eclectic visions align with my crazy brain. Haha! Kudos to a fellow classical musician!
•While I enjoyed the Debussy pieces more, Prokofiev's range and variety just blew me away! •So Enjoyable! Thank you - Prokofiev too harsh for me.
•Great concert. You are amazing!
•A very exciting program. It was hard to choose because I liked both composers! I was moved to tears on Clair de Lune as it was so beautiful - and you play from the heart. I enjoyed your comments on each piece - your program was excellent! Thanks for coming to North Platte, NE!!!
•Both have an intense mastery of the keyboard. The lower notes of Prokofiev's music seem to be more pronounced than in Debussy's music.
•Very interesting information about the composers and music. Your skill is wonderful.
•I'm not a musician, but it is clear that Mr. Chiu is!
