Debussy/Prokofiev
Aloha Piano Festival
Aloha International Piano Festival, Honolulu, HI
A beautiful audience came to the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu to kick off the AIPF. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to play, see old friends, make new ones, and discover this wonderful city.
Prokofiev wins again! But interestingly, there were a significant number of people who voted a straight ballot for Debussy, many more than those who voted straight Prokofiev. Only the 60+ age group favored Debussy overall. However, a huge majority went for the L’isle Joyeuse. Could it be the influence of Hawaii’s island paradise setting??

Prokofiev shakes me up!!
I’m a Prokofiev convert, thanks to you! Aloha!
Melodic nature of Debussy enthralling. Power of Prokofiev is so impressive.
This is harder than when watching your favorite TV show and the story doesn’t go the way you want it! Very exciting!
Comparing Debussy and Prokofiev is like comparing country music and rap music.
Apples to Oranges, or at least 3 oranges.
Debussy is very hard to follow. No structure and no roadmap for the music.
